What a day! I met up with a Greek-American woman’s in the village, Thalia (she spent her first 10 years in IL), and she brought me out for errands with her that turned into a whole sightseeing adventure! First we went to Maravel Garden, which is a large property with many gardens that you can walk, and we did. It was so pretty! There are old mill buildings on the property where they have excavated pieces of the old flour mills and put them on display, which is very cool, and they have a large store area with herbs, teas, essential oils they distilled themselves, and products made from all of these ingredients. We had drinks in their cafe and chatted with the owner a bit. From there we went into Spili, which is known for their fountains, that are still around from before modern plumbing. The water spills from the mouths of a dozen or so lions and you are welcome to drink directly from it or even fill water bottles. It was delicious!
From there we went to the sea. We went through two gorges (that were gorgeous) on the way there and back and visited a beautiful tucked away beach. It was quite windy there today so not many people were on the beach – and to be fair, we didn’t stay in the water long because of it – but it was still so beautiful!
After that, we went to a restaurant that has no signs, (you need to know someone who knows, and thankfully I do) that serves traditional Greek food, and oh was it good! We basically ordered the entire menu and I regret nothing. From salad, to tzatziki, to french fries, saganaki, and lamb! The raki was actually good, and so was the wine. An amazing meal for sure!
