Panigiri in the village

Monday night was a Panigiri, or festival in the village. Yes, I know that this is now Thursday, but in my defense, who parties on a Monday? Nearly everyone in the village of 366 people were there, and there was good, drinks, music, and dancing – so all the makings of a good party. And raffle prizes! I went with my friends, the other foreigners in the village (a German and an Italian who run a great coffee shop/bar right across the street from me), and we joined customers and friends of theirs at their families table. While it was advertised to start at 9, the music didn’t start until 11, which thankfully my friends knew would happen so we got there about that time. While we had started with wine earlier in the evening they did not have that particular spirit there, so instead we did the next logical thing and purchased a bottle of whiskey which came with a liter of coke. While we only stayed about an hour and a half (Monday night!) the music went until about 5am. I don’t know how those people made it to work the next day! It was really fun to experience!
