Next stop was Brussels. A city that in retrospect, I have been waiting to visit for a while. Why is that you ask? Belgian white wheat beer, Moules-frites (mussels and fries), Belgian waffles, René Magritte – what do these things all have in common? At one point (possibly now) these were all some of my favorite things. And they lived up to the hype (thank goodness!). I was presented a Belgian beer upon arrival, and was shown pity for the “German swill” I must have had to endure at my last stop. 😆 It was good though.
The neighborhood I was staying in was a heavy immigrant area, which meant kabobs and fries the first night. Perfect.
This was less of a tourist stop for me, and more one to take the time to work (I have a business to launch), but when you are in the city of your favorite artist since you were a teenager, you get all giddy and excited and visit the museum. It was everything I wanted and more. Listen, if you don’t love surrealism, you may not like it, but it was the first art to ever really speak to me, and I was happy to continue the conversation in person. I found even more pieces to love, which was amazing.
Even better to walk out of the museum to find so many art nouveau details on the building. 😍
Also, mussels. I do love a mollusk. It’s somehow even better when paired with spuds, or crusty bread. Mmmmm. I had some delicious meals in Brussels, and could have happily continued to eat my way around the city.
Overall, it was an absolutely delightful stop, and I hope to visit again soon.
